It is my belief that God is all-powerful. He has the power to stop whatever 'bad' things he wants - but He doesn't. Does that mean that He wants those things to happen, or simply that He allows them to happen? I know that God doesn't want us to sin, but He allows us to sin.

Believing that God isn't powerful enough to stop those bad things is not my train of thought...or that he doesn't love us enough to stop those bad things.

I am simply saying that I don't believe that God orchestrates bad things to prove a point. Thus, everything doesn't happen for a reason.

Erik,

I think your logic in the first part of your article is good. Why would a loving God choose to do such horrible things? Well, a loving god wouldn't do those things. Then, however, your logic goes downhill fast.

You seem to take the easy way out, and just say that all the bad things are somehow not the work of God but all the good things are. I'm sorry, but it just doesn't work that way. God, is by most definitions, all powerful and all loving. Therefor, even if God doesn't directly cause illness, car accidents, etc, "he" would certainly have the power to stop those things. Do you agree? Otherwise "he" is not all powerful, or, he is not loving enough to do so.

There is, of course, a simpler explanation. That being that there simply is no God. It makes way more sense then having to justify an all loving, all powerful God, not only allowing this type of stuff to happen, but also causing it, according to many people's view. Give it some thought and feel free to e-mail if you want to discuss it further.

I'm having a hard time making any christian friends, ones that'll actually reply to my e-mails on a regular basis and thereby try to be there for me. Having a hard time staying out of the occult - I went so far into it in the past it's super hard to stay in the light anymore.........I feel constantly so alone, I'm so weak, I'm so weak, I feel to most christians I'm not good enough to fellowship with. And I know I don't compare up well to the rest of the body of christ I know I look bad right now, especially w/my buffet in me like this and this light/dark that is plain to see in my eyeballs. All the christians anymore just want to fellowship with the super strong, I'm being left behind it's not good for me!!!!!!!!!!! Good for them though I guess!

My heart hurts the same way for the friends I have made here in Atlanta. Poverty, Homelessness, Hunger, ect. have always made me angry. But it's so much more real now, there are names, faces, and stories that go along with these ever present struggles. Now, I am able to do more about it and I hope to keep myself in a position that can only give me more contacts, opportunities, and overall resources to make an impact. Not only to help 'those people' suffering in my community, but to help my friends.

Erik...quite an experience! Thank you for sharing. I doubt there is one of us that hasn't felt like either of you during our lifetime. Forgiveness! What a gift
