The Day of Compassion Retreat is a high energy, fun filled action packed day of interaction, team building, positive play, and learning. We use a variety of presentations styles, games, singing, skits, music, and experiential learning activities to address and examine how we treat one another through our words and actions in our schools.
Emphasis on teamwork, cooperation, synergy, and “we are all in this boat together” are themes that are experienced first hand through games, activities, small groups, and large group presentations. We continually present the themes of compassion, respect, and kindness throughout the day. We strongly target “bullying” showing the many forms and ways this can surface in school through words, actions, and exclusion. Several times throughout the retreat, power packed vignettes or messages are given in ways that kids can understand and feel first hand.
High school leaders serve as small group leaders to facilitate small group discussions and team building activities. These leaders bring a great deal of enthusiasm, energy, and positive role modeling for the students.
Our day closes with what we call the “Sacred Circle” and candlelight campfire. This is a unique and beautiful time of giving thanks, forgiveness, and healing.
